# **Heading Extractor**

Extract page headings in their hierarchy

## What is Heading Extractor?

Enter a page URL to extract its headings (`**h1**` to `**h6**`) from top to bottom and view them as a hierarchy. The page title and meta description are shown as well.

The tool flags structural issues such as a missing or duplicate H1, or skipped levels. Copy the outline as Markdown, plain text, or HTML; you can also save it as CSV.

## How to Use

1. Enter the URL of the page you want to check.
2. Run the extraction.
3. Review the heading structure.

## Main Settings

### Exclude Navigation Elements

Removes headings inside navigation, sidebars, and site-wide headers and footers. Use this when you want to focus on the main content structure. Headers and footers within articles are kept.

### Visible Headings

After extraction, you can show or hide H1 to H6. Turn off H3 and below if you only need the main structure.

### Show Heading Numbers

Shows hierarchical numbers such as 1.1 and 1.2. The same numbers are included in copied outlines. This is off by default.

- Checking the heading structure of a page for SEO
- Creating a Markdown or HTML table of contents for an article
- Reviewing an existing page structure before rewriting it
- Comparing the heading structure of a competitor page

## Things to Keep in Mind

- Pages rendered with JavaScript may not return headings
- Some pages may fail to load because of access restrictions or connection issues
